‘Stormy’ weather
A bit of foul weather blowing through the metroplex on Monday did not keep the stork from her appointed rounds.
Our latest AutoworldToday calf came into the world down at the Duncanville FFA property.
She is a baby shorthorn heifer and we decided to name her “Stormy” in honor of the weather.
In the Garage
Just as I receive the keys to our latest AutoworldToday test vehicle, I see the skies begin to open up and release a torrent of rain and threat of tornado.
Perfect.
The keys go to the 2008 Corvette Convertible, which I dub C6.1 – a C6 Corvette with the latest powertrain upgrade, the LS3 430hp 6.2-liter V-8.

Preparing for battle
Plans have been made and lines have been drawn – now we prepare for battle.
This week we took the keys to the all-new 414hp BMW M3 sedan. Later this week we will test the new rear-drive hotrod from Pontiac, the 361hp G8 sedan. Despite a small power advantage to the Bimmer, can Detroit deliver a vehicle capable of competing on the battlefield so dominated by the Europeans?
And while it is still too early to declare a victor between the M3 and the IS-F Lexus we recently tested, things are still looking good for my favorite new Asian performance sedan.
And I almost forgot – next month we get our hands on the C63 AMG from Mercedes-Benz, so this Spring is really shaping up as a sport sedan battle royale.

In the Garage
It has been a couple of weeks since we updated this thread.
Recent vehicles spending time in the AutoworldToday garage include the Buick Enclave, Land Rover LR3, Chevy Aveo sedan and Range Rover HSE.
In the coming weeks we will be on the road to the Dallas Auto Show, Gulf States Toyota winter dealers confab in Houston, Pontiac regional intro of the new G8 sport sedan and remade Vibe and all of the usual “spring flings” we like to get away to.
Stay tuned …

As schoolchildren in Duncanville head back to school following their spring break, drivers in school zones are forewarned to hang up those handheld cell phone devices.
Beginning March 24, the new “Use of Hand-held Mobile Telephones Prohibited in School Zones” ordinance takes effect. Drivers may not operate a non-hands-free mobile (cell or sat) phone or communications device in an active school zone.
According to the city of Duncanville website, this ordinance only applies to hand-held mobile phones and texting devices, not two-way radios (CB, ham or business) or laptops.

Good news for GM Arlington
Despite reports from some local media outlets about limited production capabilities at the General Motors Assembly Plant in Arlington due to the extended strike of American Axle workers, here is the official word from GM:
“We continue to run as scheduled. We’ve completed our acceleration plan for the Hybrid Launch and are running at a steady state. Regarding the American Axle Strike, we are good indefinitely. We continue to monitor this on a daily basis but as of right now we are good.”
